Excerpt
Executive Summary (1) The health sectors of the developing countries of the South-East Asia Region face enormous challenges from the ongoing rapid globalization, increasing movement of people, and a changing economic scenario with its negative impact on health. The Regional Conference on 'Public Health in South-East Asia in the 21 Century' reviewed the progress in public health education and training, practice and research in the countries of the Region and the lessons from public health-related policies and programmes. The Calcutta Declaration on Public Health, adopted on the concluding day at a special session chaired by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, sets forth strategies and directions for enhancing health development in the South-East Asia Region in the 21 century.
